Early years.

Born in Seattle, I was raised in Richmond, VA. I attended The College of William & Mary where I immersed myself in Shakespeare, Keats and Virginia Woolf. I wrote for the school paper, majored in English and minored in French, and dreamed of being a magazine editor.

After graduating, I moved to Manhattan and attended New York University’s Publishing Institute on print and digital media. Then I landed a job at VOGUE—and I was off and running, in the latest fashion designs.

Career. Thus far.

Marketing Director, The Curtis Group Consultants, Virginia Beach 2011-2013

Development & Marketing Officer, The Aspen Institute. Washington, DC 2008 - 2011

Marketing Director, The Atlantic. Washington, DC 2006 - 2008

Fashion Merchandising Editor, VOGUE. New York, NY 2003 - 2006

Recently.

While living in Seattle from 2016-2020, I discovered a passion for start-ups and consumer tech. Entrepreneurial spirits inspire and energize me. I’ve learned to thrive in environments where marketing agility and quick decision-making is highly valued. I enjoy the fast-paced, roll-up-your-sleeves think-big mentality. I like moving from high-level strategy down into nit-picky project management and activation, analyzing the results and then optimizing further to reach goals.

In 2022 I completed my Masters of Science in Health Communications at Boston University. Their legacy distance-learning program allowed me to continue my consulting work during the day and attend live classes at night. A portfolio of my coursework can be found on my BU site here.

Over the past decade, I’ve deepened my digital marketing skills and strengthened my writing for the web through recent coursework:

Certification in Digital Marketing, University of Washington 2018-2019

CX Writing, UX Writers Collective 2018

UX Writing, School of Visual Concepts 2017

Beyond the Resume.

I’ve dedicated my career to the world of branding, marketing, and communications—with some fundraising and event planning sprinkled throughout.

I remain a fan of journalism in its printed form—I still receive many hard copy subscriptions to my IRL mailbox, plus I devour digital media all hours of the day. I’m always reading, connecting, researching—and clicking.

I also love public radio and I’m an avid podcast listener—my favorites include APM’s Marketplace, Hidden Brain, and STAT First Opinion.

While I’m willing to suspend “proper grammar” rules occasionally when writing for the web, I will forever support the Oxford comma.

I enjoy playing tennis, hiking, sailing the Chesapeake Bay and the meditative practice of gardening.

Coworker

I have a four-legged bestie name Saylor. She’s a loyal co-worker and hiking companion.
